Our favorite Smoky Mountain Swimming Hole
The first time our family attempted to visit Cades Cove, we never made it there. As we were driving, the kids noticed some people jumping off a rock into the water, so they wanted to stop to check it out. We ended up spending several hours at this spot instead of going to Cades Cove.
We had accidentally found the best swimming hole in the Smokies, known by locals at The Townsend Wye. It’s called that because it’s located where there’s a Y in the road when entering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from the Townsend Entrance.
There’s plenty of flat spots to sunbathe or enjoy a picnic. The river is wide at this spot and easy to enter. You’ll frequently see people tubing the river here, too.
The Townsend Wye is a great way to cool off, have some fun and make some great Smoky Mountain memories!
